Preparing to Fly

by Michael Young
Chicago, Illinois

As a child Michael Young started out using building blocks, eventually settling on tree houses and various contraptions; things he claims were necessary to his life. He "sojourned on through academia learning and unlearning various aspects of art."

He started art school at Columbia College in Chicago eventually finishing at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. For the past twenty-five years he has created a myriad of sculptures large and small from an assortment of materials while implementing some of the practical and impractical aspects he picked up in college.

The Chicagoan's work has traveled to exhibitions throughout the U.S. including recent shows at the Purdue North Central Sculpture Park in Westville, ID. and the Zenith Gallery in Washington, D.C.
