WINNER AWARDED
Art for the Mountain Community chose a permanent sculpture, “Peace”, and placed it at the new Mt. Evans Hospice and Home Health Care building on Bergen Peak Drive, facing Evergreen Parkway. Chosen from 78 submissions, the piece by Lorri Acott-Fowler is a fourteen foot bronze figure, reaching up to the sky and releasing multi-colored origami folded cranes. In Japan, these cranes are symbols of peace and hope. Lorri believes the figure represents the place and people of Mt Evans Hospice and Health Care. The cranes represent the hope and peace that this organization and the people involved with it bring to our community.
“Peace” was installed in October of 2008.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Art for the Mountain Community commissioned a sculpture to be installed in front of the new Mt. Evans Hospice and Home Health Care building located on Evergreen Parkway in Evergreen, Colorado. Mt. Evans Hospice and Home Health Care delivers professional, compassionate in-home medical care to mountain area residents in four counties who are recuperating from an injury, living with a chronic illness, or facing end-of-life issues. The highly trained staff also helps family members by offering counseling services, support, and education. The focus of this project is to honor the valuable contributions of Mt. Evans Hospice and Home Health Care to our community and to convey the spirit of hope and strength that characterizes the organization.
EVERGREEN, A BRIEF HISTORY
Evergreen is a vital community in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, a short drive west of Denver. Originally populated by ranchers and people seeking summer refuge from the heat of the city, Evergreen experienced rapid growth and development in the 1970’s as people were willing to commute in order to enjoy the benefits of mountain living. Throughout its history, Evergreen residents have cherished the abundant wildlife, scenic vistas and open spaces. Blue skies, ponderosa pines, creeks and lakes comprise an inspiring environment in which to live. A thriving art community works to complement the beautiful natural environment of the area.
SELECTION PROCESS
Finalists were chosen by jury.
A maquette, approximately 12 inches in height, of the winning design was required for fundraising purposes.
The selected artist agreed that the copyright to submitted materials may be used by Art for the Mountain Community for publicity purposes.
